Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg, EDR) from the Khavinson short-peptide series. The EDR sequence was characterized from Cortexin, a polypeptide preparation derived from bovine cerebral cortex. It has the molecular formula C₁₅H₂₆N₆O₈, a molecular weight of approximately 418.40 g/mol, CAS number 175175-23-2. Its sequence is Glu-Asp-Arg (EDR). EDR is reported in the peer-reviewed literature to bind DNA at promoter-region motifs of several genes and to modulate MAPK/ERK signaling in cultured cells.
